Plastic Free Future
A California-based non-profit organization dedicated to the reduction and elimination of plastic pollution through promoting reusable alternatives and focusing on outreach to systemically excluded communities.
About Us
Plastic Free Future acknowledges that we occupy the unceded ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone peoples, who are the original inhabitants of the San Francisco Peninsula. We honor the Ramaytush Ohlone peoples for their enduring commitment to Mother Earth. As the indigenous protectors of this land and in accordance with their traditions, the Ramaytush Ohlone have never ceded, lost nor forgotten their responsibilities as caretakers of this place, as well as for all peoples who reside in their traditional territory. We affirm their sovereign rights as First Peoples and wish to pay our respects to the ancestors, elders and relatives of the Ramaytush Ohlone peoples.
Plastic Free Future was founded in response to one of the greatest environmental challenges of our time: plastic contamination of our oceans, atmosphere, soils, and living organisms. Plastic is not only all around us, but inside us too. Research is beginning to unveil how much plastic we consume in our food, beverages, and even the air we breathe. Alarmingly, the processing and manufacturing of plastic products are disproportionally impacting communities of color.
Science is only starting to uncover the impacts of this planetary issue and there is a long road ahead to fully understand how plastic pollution is affecting humans, soil, water, air and the environment. We urgently need inclusive solutions to drastically reduce the amount of plastics entering the environment—solutions that require a shift away from the current model of excessive plastic consumption and where sustainable solutions are still a privilege. From local action and outreach to advocacy at international scales, Plastic Free Future will support the growing global movement to solve the plastic crisis. Would you join us?
Science 1
Believing in the power of science to drive the systemic changes needed to tackle the social and environmental dimensions of the plastic pollution crisis.
PFF strongly believes in the power of science. Our goal is to produce reliable science-based information for public education, outreach and awareness campaigns, while providing policymakers with the tools needed to make sound, sustainable decisions. We do this through critical review of scientific studies and reports, and synthesis to communicate results and conclusions to broader audiences.

Seeking to dispel the myths and elevate the public’s understanding through targeted education and outreach to underserved communities, youth, policymakers, and the general public.
We believe knowledge is power. The plastic pollution crisis has emerged largely due to the lack of public awareness and knowledge about the scale of the problem, and its impacts on human health and the environment. In fact, the plastics industry has taken deliberate action to keep the public in the dark, or misinformed about the damage plastic pollution is causing. From manufacturing to disposal, we seek to dispel the myths and elevate the public’s understanding through targeted education and outreach to underserved communities, youth, policymakers, and the general public. We hope this knowledge will spark the action and behavior changes needed to reduce and eliminate plastic pollution.

Justice 3
Bringing the issues of plastic pollution, and providing underserved, underrepresented, marginalized, low income communities with the tools they need to advocate for equity and inclusion, while amplifying their voices.
Underserved, underrepresented, marginalized, low income communities are bearing the brunt of plastic pollution worldwide. In the United States, manufacturing, processing, recycling, and disposal of plastics are disproportionately impacting communities of color. Meanwhile, these communities have been largely excluded from sustainability efforts, and lack access to sustainable alternatives to plastics. We seek to bring these issues to light, and provide these communities with the tools they need to advocate for equity and inclusion, while amplifying their voices.
